Yes, you still need to disable SMB signing in SBS 2008. It's still a Domain Controller, so by default it still has SMB signing enabled by default. I've had no issues with the Macs I have in my supported networks connecting to SBS 2008 boxes.

Any feedback on whether this method is still fine for SBS 2008?
Do we still need to disable SMB signing???

Charles -

Have you checked the quota settings on the shared volume? Sounds like the indexer might be hitting a quota limit. When you create an AFP volume, it has a default limit of 2GB, and you have to go back into the Volume settings on the server after you have created the volume to modify the default quota. Note that this is a separate quota from the NTFS quota.

Hello,
I am having trouble with a Mac connected to a SBS 2003.Everything works fine but this error message has started to appear in the event viewer almost every minute.

Macfile error 12051
Unable to update the index database for the Macintosh-Accessible volume "file system". There may not be enough disk space.
Any idea how to resolve this?
Thanks

I've done the steps required to connect to the domain properly ... I can log in properly with a few domain accounts, but when I try an account for the building that it's going into, I get the:

The system is unable to log you in at this time. Contact your system administrator for more information.

Is there something extra that needs to be done?

David -

If you've done the GPO properly, you should not need to make any changes in the Registry at all. That key is the one that is modified by the Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) GP element. KB916846 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916846) details the match between the GP elements and their respective registry keys.

If you modified the registry directly, your group policy was not done correctly.

Hello. For Phase 2, did you also need to set the requiresecuritysignature registry entry on the SBS server? I'm using Server 2003 R2 and I had to make this change in order to use the shares.

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters
