To Scan And Not To Scan
ByServer-based anti-virus software is great, but it can’t think for itself. Every major A/V software package is based on scanning files on the server, and there are just some files that should not be scanned on Windows server, especially SBS servers. And it’s up to the system administrator to tell the A/V software not to look certain places.
While I could go into a long discourse of why not to scan the following locations on an SBS server, I’m just going to list the locations and what type of scan to exclude.
- C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA
Actually, any folder that contains any Exchange data must be excluded from all scans. This includes the .log, .edb, and .stm files. - The Removed Attachments Folder
If you told Exchange to remove attachments during the Connect to the Internet wizard, you need to exclude that folder from real-time scanning. You can do a scheduled scan on the folder, just turn off real-time scanning. - C:\Windows\system32\LLS
Turn off all scanning to this folder.
